I had to buy both lake people sequels after downloading & reading the 1st lake people book (Veiled Eyes) which I LOVE LOVE LOVED!!! There goes another day of work since I couldn't put it down anymore than I could Veiled Eyes. This book is pretty good. It definitely has the paranormal aspect that Veiled Eyes had which was nice. I liked the addition of the roux-ga-roux (I'm using that term to attempt to lessen the spoiler aspect): and I found the roux-ga-roux's entrance into the story to be as eerie as the lake people were when they were introduced in Veiled Eyes. That aspect of not knowing for sure that the supernatural being(s) are good was nice.
The author has a great talent for writing stories that do not progress as expected. This makes the story unpredictable which I like.
The only complaints I have with this story are big ones.
***SPOILERS FOLLOW***
1) The order in which the story unfolded. The story would have been MUCH better had it progressed in ORDER. The story could have been told up to the "regeneration" (without revealing the curse or the reason behind it) then only flashed back to the curse & reason behind it whenever the characters' memories returned at the end. The jumps forward and flashbacks made the story harder to follow.
2) The love/romance aspect of the story were, for the most part, missing. I feel like I was robbed of the actual Jane/Christien love story. The best romance/love stories tell the story of FALLING in love, not BEING in love. FALLING in love makes a much better story that BEING in love. I realize the story does SORT of tell the story of them RE-falling in love with each, even though they don't know who the other is. But it just would have been nice to have the love/romance aspect of the story have more substance.
Those are the only two complaints I have, but I do consider them major. As such, I can't give this book a 5 as I did Veiled Eyes. But since I still called in sick a day to work because I couldn't put it down, it's an obvious 4.
PS. I also wish I could have had more lake people "group" speak/thought. It's so eerie/unique when they all speak to each other. I miss that. But I know the author can't do that every time. Just missed it because I liked it so much in Veiled Eyes. The Lake People are so unique and new: I just want more stories about them without so many other supernatural (and frankly overdone) beings like werewolves, witches, vampires, etc.
I'm also curious if there are other "tribes" of Lake People who will be making an appearance in future lake people stories. Maybe with certain gifts like the Lake People only with different physical features and a few different mental gifts (many something in addition to what we've seen, like telekinesis, controlling dreams, communicating in dreams or something cool like that). Just wondering.
Although my employer will not be pleased, I am ANXIOUSLY AWAITING MORE LAKE PEOPLE NOVELS!!!

Arcanorum A Lake People Novel edition by CL Bevill Romance eBooks Reviews
Another great paranormal mystery from Ms. Bevill. This time an amnesiac, Jane, escapes a ruthless abuser, is being tracked by a "werewolf" type creature and discovers she is cursed by a powerful witch. Full of danger, frustration and mean people this novel had me reading with few interruptions the entire way. As good as her previous Lake People books, I am totally satisfied and replete by the great writing and great ending. Thanks, again, Ms. Bevill.
After reading Veiled Eyes I fell in love with this author. Her Lake people series is one of the most original series in the fantasy romance genre that I have read in a very long time. I consider myself a bit of a genre junkie in the fantasy/scifi/paranormal romance vein. I was shocked by the price of this author, because of the quality of the work.
Here is a break down of Veiled Eyes
There is a family of telepathic people in the bayou of Louisiana. This family is very closed to strangers, and they only trust with in themselves.
The heroine of this story is a long lost member of this family, who is kidnapped by a serial killer.
She awakens her latent telepathy in her terror over being in this situation, and the family learns of her existence.
There are a series of twists and turns, that lead to her meeting her life partner and then becoming a member of this family. I won't give any of it away, but it is a very quick and good read.
Fast forward to Arcanorum
This novel continues in the vein of the family
a new heroine is introduced in a very anonymous way. You don't really learn the players in the book until well into it. The characters are very sympathetic. Overall this is a great book, and I won't tell too much of the story in advance.
This is the fourth book I've read of C.L.Bevill's obviously she is good or I wouldn't have read more. She is a very detailed writer which I like, unless it gets in the way, she did not. I am an avid reader,as anyone who reads reviews of a book before for reading or buying it, because I often write about my enjoyment of a book or the writer and post it. I have to say, I, don't review everything, not because of merit, but of diversion and life's other journeys. My life has been and is full of love,joy,sadness,pain,grief,loss.....happiness,and oh so many others. When I am able to see a wonderful story through a writer's words it can and will have you feeling the emotions of the characters. What is written matters to writer and the reader, therefore it is an awesome calling, to be a writer, to create stories to give enjoyment to others. Yeah
Following on the heels of her last suspenseful novel, "Disembodied Bones", I didn't know what to expect from Ms. Bevill in this one. Would she be able to continue the high level of suspense she generated in her last books of the Lake People" series, or would this effort be somewhat watered down? I shouldn't have had any doubts...Arcanorum, while different in scope and manner of edge-of-your-seatness, nonetheless manages to grab hold of and keep the reader's attention from the very beginning, and doesn't let go until dang near the entire story has been told. (Being from New Orleans myself, where the story is set, I always get an extra kick from books with plots that take place here. unlike some author's I've read, it is obvious that Ms. Bevill has spent time here, or done her research, as the references to both famous and obscure landmarks are spot on.) If you're looking for some good, grab your attention an dkeep it, what's gonna happen next reads, you could do much worse than picking up C.L. Bevill's "Lake People" novels.
