I love the Blades Series. The sports action is accurate and intense. Deidre Martin does a great job on her heroes and their women. Sinead is a strong woman and Adam a complex man, but they fit. It's a great story about fighting for the love you want. A must read if you love romance and sports romance in particular.

I always wonder when I read reviews if the person reviewing has the same "style" as me. So for those of you who like Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Rachel Gibson, Susan Donovan, Julie James, Sophie Kinsella etc. You won't be disappointed.
The story was great but I felt there was not much fiery chemistry going on...its like one minute they were cold with each other and the next they were saying i love you randomly...its a fun read but I wanted a bit more romance
This one just lacked a little fire between Adam and Sinead. They just weren't that interesting together or apart. I was exhausted over Sinead's work schedule and quite frankly thought she needed some serious intervention and I didn't think Adam was portrayed as that strong of a character. The ending was sort of anti-climatic; predictable but boring. Overall, it was a nice story, but lacked a lot of fire and tension that I enjoy reading.
A well written continuing saga of the New York Blades hockey team. Deirdre Martin contiues to entertain with this book.
I love this author and this story. She really puts the -r- in romance. All her books are a real treat.
An attorney and a hockey player get together when she is defending him for assault. They have many ups and downs before they have the happy ending.
I absolutely love the cover tagline for Deirdre Martin's Icebreaker "There's no defense against this kind of sexy." Cornball? Of course! I giggle every time I read it. But it's still a great summary of this contemporary sports romance. Icebreaker is the ninth book in Martin's series about the fictional New York Blades hockey team, and it's a fun read.

Sinead O'Brien grew up above her parents' Manhattan pub, but she's worked hard to build a reputation as one of the city's top female litigators. She's just been hired to defend Blades star Adam Perry from criminal assault charges resulting from a vicious on-ice hit (a plot twist I thought ludicrous until I remembered the same thing happened to Todd Bertuzzi back in 2004).

Adam's not the friendliest of guys, and he's as tough off the ice as he is on. His mission is to win the Stanley Cup and he isn't going to let a trumped-up legal case or an attractive attorney distract him from his goal. Sinead and Adam are very much alike - both are loners and despite their attraction, neither is interested in a romance. Watching the two of them change from reluctant allies into a real couple is great fun. There's a fair amount of family drama as well, and Sinead and Adam each have to make some difficult choices about how they treat the people they love.

Icebreaker is definitely brain candy - it's cute and entertaining, and you don't have to engage too many brain cells to follow the action. If you're interested in starting the series from the beginning, start with Body Check, which is the first book (and my favorite of the lot). Regardless, this book is a fine introduction to the Blades series and to the oft-overlooked Martin.
