I am gradually transferring my JAK collection to digital. Lost and Found is one of my favs. Cady Briggs and Mack Easton strike sparks off each other from the opening page. The story elements of missing armor, dot.com billionaires, art forgery, and con men keep me on the edge of my seat each time I reread the story.

This story resonated with me also because the heroine is trying desperately to be herself and not the person her family thinks her to be, a younger version of their eccentric grandmother. Cady forges ahead bravely and Mack is a great leading man. Loved it.

Lost and Found Jayne Ann Krentz 9780515131741 Books Reviews

Jayne Ann Krentz has returned to her best form with Lost and Found. Her books are always a good read but this one is not only a Great Read but it has a mystery that can't be figured out before you're halfway through the book. The characters are interesting and the situation is complex, interseting, and compelling. The story is set in the San Francisco Bay area rather than her usual Pacific Northwest, and Ms. Krentz does an excellent job of describing the area.
Like so many others, I am a big fan of JAK who has been disappoined by some of her books. I agree with the other reviewer who enjoyed Eclipse Bay as the characters, dialogue and plot reminded her (and me) of the earlier books that were so captivating. However, I disagree with your Top 500 Reviewer in her review of Lost & Found. I thought the character development was very strong and the plot was fun. I also like the way JAK brings in enough reality to the book (e.g., single father, complicated families) so that readers can identify. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am happy to recommend it.
I know I'm going to get bashed by every JAK fan out there, but hang on before you start. Let me start off by saying I'm a die-hard fan of JAK. The woman has never really written a bad book. However, let's face it, Lost and Found isn't all that great. After reading Eclipse Bay by Ms. Krentz this summer, I just knew she was back on track with her trade mark sassy dialogue, strong female character, and that bad boy hero she does so well. That isn't what I got when I read Lost and Found.
Cady Briggs is an expert at what she does. She identifies art and antiques. She is part of well known and respect family that owns one of the leading art galleries in the world. Doing a little independent work, she hooks up with Mark Easton who runs a low profile investigating company on the web. This sets up the beginning of the book with a little flirtation involving email and phone calls.
Then Cady's aunt dies and leaves her controlling interest in the family's business, Chatelaine's. Cady and Mark pretend to be engaged to determine why Cady's aunt backed out of a merger the entire family was in support of just before her death.
There are several different plots in this story that all lead back to the aunt's death. I don't know why the first three-fourths of the book didn't work. In fact, it took me two weeks to finish this book. However, I am glad I finished the book, because the last one-fourth of the book is pure Krentz. The characters came alive, the dialogue picked up, and I never picked up on who the real murder was even after skimming the ending before I finished the book.
I would love to give a glowing review of this book just because I love JAK's writing, but it isn't going to happen. If you have read Krentz throughout her career, don't expect the same caliber as her earlier writings.
I have read Ms. Krentz's books for years. This book is just one more that I have added to my personal collection. I found I was so caught up in the story I hated to put it down until I finished it.
Lots of Art references and a slightly more complicated plot make this one of JAK's more delightful reads, with a villain surprise that truly is a good surprise at the very end. Excellent investigation of Love from more than just the Romantic angle.
I'm an avid reader of Amanda Quick & Jayne Ann Krentz but this was not her best by any means. I got bored easily and had to flip through pages to keep my attention and the passion between the characters was not great at all. Very disappointed.
This author in all her pen names is my "secret sin" in reading. When I've finished something heavy and often boring, I know I can count on her for a fun romp. Please keep writing. We all need something light and easy to read.
