Under Fire The Firefighters of Station Five Jo Davis 9780451226792 Books

Good character development of the main people in the plot. Nice interweaving of previously introduced characters, I will definitely check out the secondhand shop for the others when I run out of my favorite authors. BUT the protagonists are naive at best, purposefully stupid at worst. The lack of defenses for a danger that resulted in repeated injury made it difficult to finish the book. It was engaging and the dialog was all that I could ask for but the plot was woefully inadequate. Expecting a man who is supposedly a genius not to look for future threats is not believable. The author used the fact that the characters made little effort to protect themselves as a crutch to build avoidable attack scenes. Hopefully she will do better in the next book and not detract from her excellent dialog.

Under Fire The Firefighters of Station Five Jo Davis 9780451226792 Books Reviews

I bought this Book because I read her first book Trial of Fire

The moment that Zack Knight and Cori Shannon met because of a car accident. I know that it was going to be an amazing story. I highly recommend the book
This series is great!! I can't wait for the remainder of the crew's story n I hope Cori's friend Shea and her twin brother get their story too...this series keeps you captivated with drama, suspense AND SEX!! Great read so far...off to purchase book 3!!!
I really enjoyed the story- but I think...once I start reading an author, I start noticing some patterns. And...in this series, I felt like after the first book she wasn't really creative.

I have some spoilers, but I won't give away plot...if you want to keep reading you can.

I still enjoyed Zack, I really enjoyed his duty and his calling...but it just felt more like a case of hero worship to me on her part. Perhaps I shouldn't think that way, but the reason she gave for loving him was a bit much for me.

The other stuff that bothered me was just that he felt too accident prone. And too much time getting whacked or hit or...in the hospital.

I mean, really. I get she's about to be a nurse. Do we have to play that up beyond anything else in the story?

So, it was good enough to go to the next one, but as a stand alone...ehh. so/so
Not as good as book one. I liked Zack's character, but too much of the story was away from the fire station. I thought more of the book would revolve around the fire fighters and rescue calls. I will still try book three. I can't believe it is Salvatore's story and not Sean's. I want Sean and Eves story!
This book wasn't too my taste. There is so much to get through to get to the good feelings. I wanted to reach into the book and remove Zack from his horrible life. Personally I like my romance a little more lighthearted. I can deal with tragedy, I had to force myself to get through to the part where everyone knows what's going on and isn't beating Zack up anymore.
I have never left a book review before and never intended to, but I had to say something because the ending of this book… just WOW. The ending was so completely and utterly bad that I had to write and warn other people who terrible it ended. So yeah, this will contain spoilers. Heads up to anyone thinking of buying this book.

To be fair, I didn't have really high expectations for this book. It's a book about a hunky firefighter and an ex-stripper who fall in love. There's a couple of decent plot twists that made for intriguing reading, but the ending was like the author got tired of writing. The heroine gets pregnant (out of the blue because SURPRISE! the pill magically didn't work) and tells the hero (on the heels of a surprise that he gave her) that he's going to be a Daddy. And he INSTANTLY drops down to his knees and begs her to be his wife. Naturally, she flings herself into his arms without a thought of if he was proposing to be with her or proposing out of obligation due to new fatherhood and they supposedly live happily ever after.

I'm all for happy endings but this was disgusting; it was sickeningly sappy and not even slightly believable. The last two pages ruined the entire book for me. So I don't recommend buying this book. If you're set on a firefighter romance, purchase the first book in this series; it's much better. But skip this one- it's not worth your time or cash.
I loved the first book in the series, Trial By Fire so I couldn't wait to start this one about Zack and Cori. Well, I think I can suspend reality with the best of everyone, but c'mon, there is only just so much suspension, if you know what I mean. I felt Zack was like a little weeble wobble, he kept getting pushed, but just wouldn't fall down. I'm sorry, it's just hard for me to believe someone could experience so many injuries (and a lot of them MAJOR) and get up and do the things Zack does (make love, repair a house and let's not forget - BUILD A BRIDGE, among other things) within in a couple of weeks. Then there was the ending, I wasn't a huge fan of why Zack decided he wasn't good enough for Cori. All it took was Cori to say one thing and Zack instantly changed his mind. I don't know, it just didn't gel with me. However, I really enjoyed visiting with all of the firefighters again (Howard & Kat, Tommy, Julian, Sean and Eve). Can't wait for all of their individual books.
